How does health insurance work in the US?

Posted by admin On May - 7 - 2010 No Comments »

I am a non-US citizen and need this information to do a case.

Specifically:
1) Is health insurance compulsory for everyone?
2) What happens if someone cannot afford it?
3) In the event that a medical procedure needs to be done, does health insurance cover all the bills? Does the patient need to pay anything extra?
4) Does the patient have any say over what kind of procedure he can take? Say if 2 treatments are available for his condition, can the patient choose the more expensive treatment? And if so, is it covered by the insurance?

Thanks for reading this. Your help in answering any part of the questions would be greatly appreciated!

Posted by admin On December - 21 - 2009 No Comments »

As far as i know, every healthcare bill always need for us to buy a health insurance. This had steer pros and cons among fellow Americans. The reason why me must have an insurance is because those with insurance are helping paying the cost of medical treatment those without it. You see, when only sick people bought it, the insurance company would surely face bankruptcy. Since almost everyone get medical treatment, the cost of treating the uninsured passes on other people.

By buying insurance, you can be sure to have a medical coverage even when facing expensive bill, because with more people join in health insurance coverage, will make the company gain more premium and thus reducing the denying of coverage for the sick.

With more and more people having insurance, this could cover the high expense that need to treating people who have major medical problem such as cancer.

With many animals being a part of their human families, companions, guardians and best friends, some people want to insure their well being with coverage. Economist state that there could have been a lot more done to help our health care deficit, for example breaking Medicare up into smaller companies and allowing health insurance competition from state to state. But that is not the solution being proposed in the reform bills. Instead congress wants to expand health care spending to an additional 50 million people in an undefined, taxpayer financed, and government run plan. The House is proposing over $900 billion in new spending. Congressional democrats are guilty of hiding the costs in the public option proposed bill. It took Medicare more than 50 years to experience deficits based on revenue losses.
