Samsung SL820 review

I just brought my second digital camera Samsung SL820 for $250 USD includes shipping and another $30 for tax at Amazon (couldn’t find one at my local stores). That would total for about $300 in Canadian dollars. My first digital was a Canon PowerShot S30, which I brought back in 2003 (6 years ago) I believe it was probably one of the first generation point and shot digital camera at the time. I paid about $800 Canadian dollars for it, now you can probably buy one used for $5 bucks ?. It didn’t even have a stabilizer, so you will need a tripod or lay it on a flat surface like a table if you want your photos to come out sharp. I usually used the “sports mode” which I can hold with my hands and take photos without having the photos blurred from my hand shake.

Anyway, I can go on much more about the Canon PoserShot S30 and how it lack so many features when comparing it to today’s point and shot digital cameras.

I really can’t wait to use my new Samsung SL820. I never thought I would end up buying a digital camera by Samsung. I didn’t even know Samsung made digital cameras. I always had my eyes on the Panasonic models because of the high 10x-12x optical zoom, good wide lens, and video capture features. Then my second choice was Sony CyberShot (one of my friends had the older model which took good pics and long battery life). Those were the 2 main digital camera brands I was thinking to buy before I did my research online.

When I decided to go to Thailand next month I was finally ready to buy my second digital camera. I did a search on Google “best point and shoot camera” and found this site. It was very interesting and the night before I found this site I never thought about Samsung digital cameras. The night before I found it hard figuring out which point and shoot digital cameras is the one I wanted. I know what I wanted and I had a 200-300 dollars budget but it was still very hard for me to decide which camera to chose.

It was very easy for me to search on Google and type in Panasonic **** reviews or Sony CyberShot reviews but not too many of the sites I found had any example photos by the camera they were testing. It was all written down; I know different people with different experiences would write differently about the cameras they are testing. It was pretty much subjective, and I wanted a review that would show all sort of examples that I can see and that was what I got here.

The biggest selling point for me with the Samsung SL820 was the quality on the micro mode. The micro photos look very sharp and it has capture pretty much all the details. Also the 5x optical zoom was very nice (I wanted at least 10x, but the other features on this camera took up the slack), along with the 28 mm wide angle lens, with 3” LCD, vivid colors, easy to use, compact, dual image stabilizations, also the HD video is a big plus with H.264 format which was made by Apple for their QuickTime movies. I used to render 3D animations in the past and the H.264 is my favorite format because of its small file size (easy to upload and download online) and the image quality beats any other format by far.
